Hardy kiwi requires consistent moisture, especially during fruit development and dry spells. Water deeply once or twice a week, ensuring the soil remains evenly moist but not waterlogged. Young plants need more frequent watering to establish a strong root system. Reduce watering slightly during dormancy in winter.

Prune hardy kiwi in late winter or early spring while dormant to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches and to manage size. Summer pruning can be done to control vigorous growth and improve light penetration to developing fruits. Train vines on a sturdy trellis or arbor, maintaining a main trunk and lateral fruiting canes.

Hardy kiwi can be propagated from softwood or hardwood cuttings. Softwood cuttings are taken in summer, treated with rooting hormone, and rooted in a moist medium. Hardwood cuttings are taken in late winter. Layering is also an effective method, where a branch is buried in the soil to root while still attached to the parent plant.

Hardy kiwi is typically grown in the ground due to its vigorous vining habit and large size. Repotting is not generally applicable. If grown in a very large container, it might need repotting every 2-3 years to refresh the soil and check roots, but this is uncommon for mature plants.
