Liquidambar orientalis, commonly known as the Oriental Sweetgum, is a deciduous tree native to a specific region of southwestern Turkey and the Greek island of Rhodes. This species is a member of the Altingiaceae family, a group of trees that includes other sweetgum species. The Oriental Sweetgum is recognized for its distinctive palmate leaves and its role in its native ecosystem. These develop into spiky, woody, star-shaped fruits, also known as capsules, which are characteristic of the genus Liquidambar. These fruits contain numerous small seeds.
